Vaginal thrush which is also commonly known as Candida or yeast infection, can be extremely irritating, embarrassing and some cases are even painful.
Whenever you are suffering form vaginal thrush you may have to deal with the continual want to scratch and if you get caught scratching this can be very embarrassing since it is not a good idea to scratch an itch in this area. Some cases cause pain because vaginal thrush can actually lead to bladder infections and most commonly vaginal tissue which is sore, broken and swollen.
This problem can cause you to be quite frustrated and worried about what you are supposed to do. Women that deal with vaginal thrush on a recurring basis may have a disruption in their sex life and even more embarrassment.
What Is Vaginal Thrush?
Vaginal thrush is a fungal infection of any of the candida species. Candida Albicans is the most common however. Has many technical names such as Candidosis, Moniliasis and Oidiomycosis but it is most commonly known as yeast infection or vaginal thrush.
What Causes Vaginal Thrush?
Those of you that are dealing with this problem want to know what causes vaginal thrush. You have the proper thought pattern that if you can figure out what the problem is then you can make sure that it doesn’t happen again. This usually is the case but sometimes even if you know what the cause if you are not going to be able to remedy the problem.
The thrush bacteria and Candid Albicans is present in our bodies and under normal conditions there are no problems caused by these but if something happens that creates an imbalance and the level of yeast rises a thrush infection can happen. Here are some of the common things that can cause vaginal thrush:
- The level of estrogen in the body being unusually high such as when you are pregnant or menstruating
- Usage of steroids or medication that has steroids in it
- Being sexually active with a partner who has it
- High blood sugar levels
- Using antibiotics
- Weakened immune systems or feeling rundown
- IUD usage
- Intake of contraceptive pills
- Emotional stress
- Physical stress
- Eczema
- Dermatitis
- Immune system affecting conditions such as HIV
These are the main things that could cause you to have to deal with vaginal thrush but you may also be aggravating the condition by wearing clothes that is too tight or using bath oils and personal care products that have a great amount of perfumes.
Whenever you force your body to be in tight clothing you are allowing bacteria to have a great place to grow and many times moisture will accumulate and make it an even better environment, for them – not for you.
Vaginal Thrush Symptoms
If you are suffering from vaginal thrush you know that many of the symptoms that you experience can disrupt your life and especially your sleep schedule since many times you are kept awake for hours because of it.
The never ending itching seems to drive you absolutely insane and could be enough to make you want to scream without the other possible symptoms that come with more severe cases. If you have a severe case you may notice that you inner and outer lips of the vulva become affects which will result in sore, broken and swollen skin. As you know, these areas are very sensitive so this can be extremely painful.
Sometimes women who suffer from vaginal thrush even develop cystitis as well. If you have cystitis you may notice that you have a dull ache in your lower back and what feel like burning on the inside whenever you urinate. You could also feel very weak and shivery.
It is not always this way but many times vaginal thrush will have some creamy white discharge that comes with it. If you notice this you may have been pretty alarmed and wondered what could be happening with your body. Thrush is actually the second most common reason for vaginal discharge so if you see this your mind could go right to the thought of vaginal thrush.
As mentioned the vaginal discharge is usually creamy and white but sometimes it can be watery. Usually it will not smell like some other discharge from your vagina if you have other problems.
The good news is that vaginal thrush is not damaging to your vagina.
Who Gets Vaginal Thrush?
If you are afraid that you have vaginal thrush you could be very embarrassed and worried about talking to anyone about it to get advice on what to do. Private matters such as these often go unresolved because women do not like to speak to anyone else about something that they think could make someone think that they were not clean enough or taking proper care of their vaginal area.
You don’t need to feel like this however. More than half of all women in the world are going to experience problems with vaginal thrush at least one time within their lifespan. Many times it actually happens for no apparent reason. There usually is not a blinking arrow right over your head saying “You did something wrong!!!” because you didn’t even though there are certain things that will make it more likely for this condition to develop.
If you have a poor immune system you may be more likely to get thrush because if your natural defenses are altered or upset by something such as being pregnant or taking antibiotics then you may notice that you are more susceptible to dealing with vaginal thrush. If you have a strong immune system this is not likely to affect you as much. This is why it is very important that you keep your immune system running in tip top condition.
Should I Go To The Doctor To Test For Vaginal Thrush?
If you think that you may have vaginal thrush then you may want to be tested to make sure if this is your problem. If you are having vaginal discharge you shouldn’t automatically think that you have vaginal thrush because there are many other things that could be causing you to see the vaginal discharge.
